PRESENTATION

Pathological anatomy, colloquially called "anapath", and officially called pathological anatomy and cytology, is a medical specialty little known to the general public and yet indispensable in the chain of care. It focuses on the diagnosis of lesions from their morphological aspect. Three key words: diagnosis, lesion, morphology. Specialists called "pathologists" have the responsibility to make a diagnosis and prognosis of disease, ie to analyze and determine the nature of the disease, from a sample of cells or tissue (eg, moles, surgical surgical parts, cervix smears, etc.).

Activities in the anapath laboratory and morgue

Diagnosis of cancerous and non-cancerous lesions by microscopic examination of tissue samples or body fluids;
Screening for cancers including cervix and breast;
Thanatopraxia (Preparation and preservation of body);
Spermogram;
Autopsy (examination of the bodies to determine the cause of death);
Preparation of death certificates;
Teaching and training of physicians in specialization and students in medicine and research;
Quality control including clinical confrontation.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Requirements to complete a spermogram
- 3 days minimum and 05 days maximum abstinence from (alcohol, tobacco, coffee, exciting, antibiotic, sexual intercourse)
- The sampling is done in the laboratory by masturbation. The patient may be accompanied by his partner.
- If the collection is made at home, it must reach the service within 30 minutes after collection.
The exam is done every working day from Monday to Friday and the cost is 11,500 FCFA
- Requirements for Pap smears
  - Abstain from sex on the eve
  - No egg intake
  - Not during menstruation
  - No intimate toilet

Performing a Cytunction
- The examination is done twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. The cost of the exam is 11,500 FCFA
Performing a biopsy
- The parts come from the operating room or other hospital formations and must be kept in 10% formalin
- The prices of the parts are obtained at the laboratory according to the tariff and vary according to the size of the part.
- The reasonable time to render the results is 24 hours for the spermogram, 02 days for the smear and the puncture and 10 days for the biopsies.
